Wow. Poingant post. The last three paragraphs are powerful and contain great truth.

It seems that we do foster a generation of youth who love Israel because, hey, everyone else is doing it (or at least, that was me). The love though is, seemingly, devoid of depth and definition. It is a love because we love vacationing and we love hot weather and we love loving. Cause that’s what this generation is all about.

But as much I critique this trend I cannot deny the value of this love. It is the basis and it is the beginning of a meaningful love. Hopefully. It is only through education and a plethora of “why I love Israel so much even after 60 years” forums that we can expose the real reason for love—a love that demands that change be affected. It is only through a thorough examination of Why I Love Israel that I will reveal her imperfections and thus begin the How I Can Show My Love for Israel forum.

It is a process and there’s a long way to go. A long way. But I really believe it begins with a initial love. Perhaps seemingly insignificant, yet the few that pursue that love, are those few that inspire the many.

Really beautiful writing, Ariel.

Romantic comedies have ruined us all for, oh, so many reasons. But I don't think it's wrong to want a love that transports and inspires you...I think the point is that just because you're in love, or home, doesn't mean you don't see the challenges and flaws of your situation. It's the acknowledgment and subsequent embrace of those cracks--and the evolution of a plan to strengthen them--that seems to me to be the stuff of a love that's more authentic, and longer-lasting in terms of commitment. At least that's the rumor.
